Another pinch-hit from my sister, the Actual Hippie. Enjoy!
I got a bread machine from my mother-in-law recently. I’m not a huge fan of the big loaves that it makes, but I wanted to try out the dough setting – who doesn’t want nice crusty fresh bread from the oven, right? I tried a loaf of French bread a few weeks ago, and it was terrible. Looked pretty, but it was tasteless. I didn’t want to give up, though. We were grilling burgers this weekend to celebrate the amazing spring weather, so I thought I’d give buns a whirl.
I found this recipe for buns http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/beautiful-burger-buns-recipe
I used the dough setting in the bread machine and then followed the rest of the directions. I used a 3″ round cookie cutter to form the dough into the bun shapes in step 3. And I used 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour and 2 cups of all purpose flour and the full cup of water. Check after 13 minutes, as ours were almost burnt on the bottom at the 15 minute mark.
They were delicious!! We ate all 8 within 24 hours!!
