Shamrock Shakes for Grown-Ups

My honorary older sister had a mild addiction to the shamrock shake during our formative years. The first day they were available each year was a bit of a holiday. For her birthday party last weekend, I made a grown-up version of the shamrock shake that was dangerously delicious.

Creme de Menthe comes in a clear version and a green version that uses artificial food dye. I used the green because it was a party, though I would use the one without artificial colors if I were making this at home. As you can see, the green color is pretty subtle anyway.

Grown-up Shamrock Shakes {The Reluctant Hippie}

Whip up a quick batch of these to be the hero of your St. Patrick’s Day gathering.

Yield: 3-4 shakes

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream, softened (we used ice cream from Oberweis, in Aurora, IL)
  • 1/8 cup Creme de Menthe
  • 1/8 cup Stoli Vanilla

Method:
Throw it in a blender, let it spin, and enjoy. If the ice cream is too thick, soften some of it in the microwave for 10 seconds. Try it in the blender first, though – the alcohol melts the ice cream pretty quickly.
